![]() ![]() Considers trim optimization and ballast usage to improve vessel hydrodynamics and propulsion efficiency during transits. Optimized port arrival timing lowers idling emissions. Matches vessel speeds to port cargo availability to avoid fuel-burning waits at anchor. Shorter distances travelled mean lower emissions. Calculates the most fuel-efficient route considering weather, currents, draft limits and other variables. By leveraging data, analytics and connectivity, ship operators can make smarter routing and operational decisions that shrink the environmental impacts of ocean transits. With pressure mounting on the shipping industry to reduce its carbon footprint, optimizing voyages is being recognised as a powerful tool for cutting emissions. The Role of Voyage Optimization in Slashing Maritime Emissions! #AsiaPACMaritimeCommunity #ShipsandShipping With Russia’s #Arctic oil projects slated to start next year, the #NSR will be key for Russian oil to pivot away from Europe and more toward the East. Now escorted by nuclear icebreaker #Taymyr, the two oil tankers are expected to arrive at their destination no earlier than 26th of August.Ĭompared to the traditional route through the #SuezCanal, travelling via the Arctic is expected to reduce the time of the journey by around 30 percent. Originally slated to arrive at the Chinese ports of Dalian and Rizhao by the middle of August, the two oil tankers were met by ice packs in the Eastern Siberian Sea, which have significantly delayed their journey. Two Aframax oil tankers, NS Arctic and Primorsky Prospect, were dispatched from oil terminals near St Petersburg on 12 July and 14 July, respectively, each loaded with more than 200,000 tons of crude oil. * EU sanctions on #Russian oil has accelerated the trend for sending crude oil shipments to #China via the Northern Sea Route (NSR). ![]() The Strategic Plan will be further discussed over the next few months and be adopted at the 33ʳᵈ IMO Assembly later this year. Singapore and #MaritimeSG will actively contribute to advance the work of the IMO, and together with Member States and partners, we will do our best to help set #standards and guidelines particularly to support the #energytransition, build bridges and forge consensus. The Strategic Plan allows the IMO to continually strengthen efficiency, transparency and performance. ![]() ![]() Other areas of focus include enhancing ocean governance, ensuring regulatory and organization effectiveness and supporting maritime personnel and seafarers on safety, and protection of the environment and biodiversity of high seas. These areas of focus include the implementation of IMO instruments, integration of emerging technologies in the regulatory framework, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from international shipping, and enhancement of #supplychain resilience.īuilding on IMO's Capacity-Building Decade 2021-2030 Strategy, all Member States will enhance technical cooperation, technology transfer and #capacitydevelopment development programmes. We appreciate the co-development and co-sponsorship of 26 Council Members of our initial draft Strategic Plan and the contributions of all Working Group members to the draft text. The Strategic Plan identifies the vision and strategic directions which IMO will focus on for the next 6-year period from 2024 to 2029. Our Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) officer, Darrick Leow, currently First Secretary (Maritime) at the Singapore High Commission in London, has been appointed Chair of the Working Group on the Strategic Plan of the IMO at the 129ᵗʰ Council session. We are thankful for the continued support of Member States and the IMO Secretariat in our contributions to the various Committees and working groups. Since Singapore's election as a Council member of the International Maritime Organization in 1993, we have responded collectively to new challenges and opportunities with fellow Member States to facilitate #safe, #secure, environmentally sound, #efficient and #sustainable #shipping through cooperation. ![]()
